Every year, on the 17th march, people all over the world celebrate Saint Patrick´s Day. This man was a very kind person who lived in Roman Empire times. When he was 20 years old, he was captured by some thieves and sold as slave. Some years later he got to scape and returned to Ireland with his family. He told them that he had a dream and he wanted to help other people so he decided to be a priest.

Cada año, el 17 de marzo, personas de todo el mundo celebran el Día de San Patricio. Este hombre era una persona muy amable que vivió en la época del Imperio Romano. Cuando tenía 20 años, fue capturado por unos ladrones y vendido como esclavo. Unos años más tarde logró escapar y regresó a Irlanda con su familia. Les dijo que tenía un sueño y que quería ayudar a otras personas, así que decidió ser sacerdote.

From that moment he only wanted to teach christianism and used a shamrock to develop his taughts, mainly the Trinity. He did so many good things that some years later he was named Bishop and became to be considered as Saint by the Church. He died on the 17th march 471 a.c. That´s the reason because he is the patron saint of Ireland and nowadays everybody remember his name and actions on this special day.

A partir de ese momento solo quiso enseñar el cristianismo y utilizó un trébol para desarrollar sus enseñanzas, principalmente la Trinidad. Hizo tantas cosas buenas que años más tarde fue nombrado obispo y pasó a ser considerado santo por la Iglesia. Murió el 17 de marzo de 471 a.c. Por eso es el patrón de Irlanda y hoy en día todo el mundo recuerda su nombre y acciones en este día tan especial.

In Santa Ana School, students and teachers have summed up to this tradition as part of the English Language Curriculum. Some activities have been developed during this friday morning with the visit of some Irish people who told the origins of the festivity, the way Irish people celebrate it wearing green clothes, the reasons because everything is green on this day, the importance of the shamrocks, the beautiful parades in the streets of Dublin, and the most famous song everybody in Ireland is in love: the song of Molly Malone. Furthermore, students received some golden coins of a Leprechaun and they knew the story of these short and funny characters from the folk stories.

En el colegio Santa Ana de Cuenca, alumnado y profesorado se han sumado a esta tradición como parte del Área de Inglés. Algunas actividades se han desarrollado durante la mañana de este viernes con la visita de unos irlandeses que contaban los orígenes de la festividad, la forma en que los irlandeses la celebran vestidos de verde, los motivos por los que todo es verde en este día, la importancia de los tréboles, los bonitos desfiles en las calles de Dublín, y la canción más famosa que enamora a todos en Irlanda: la canción de Molly Malone. Además, los alumnos recibieron unas monedas de oro de un Leprechaun y conocieron la historia de estos pequeños y divertidos personajes de los cuentos populares.
